As the employer, we are committed to complying with all safety and health legislation that applies to this company. This statement sets out the safety and health measures we are implementing to protect everyone who works at Quinlan Development. We have the responsibility to implement it and we are committed to ensuring that the safety and health measures set out in our safety statement are met. 

We are also improving the safety education of our staff. They have recently completed the CIF's Managing Safely in Construction course. This course is certified by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and is recognised throughout the industry as being the foundation program for safety supervision and management on construction projects. The Managing Safely in Construction course covers issues that would be seen as key for people going on site. Topics include understanding the legislation, understanding risk assessment, working at heights and many other safety issues are covered in the Managing Safely in Construction course. Other issues covered include the relationship with excavations and plant machinery. The ISOH Managing Safely in Construction course provides a strong core safety programme.

Internal Safety Management is provided by Dr. Jason Quinlan. Dr. Quinlan has 29 years of experience in the electrical trade and has 22 years of management proficiency. He is the health and safety manager on all electrical projects, while he has no formal education in health & safety management, his in-depth knowledge of all areas of electrical contracting has provided him with a strong foundation in the control and procedures needed to maintain a high level of compliance.

To ensure that our Health and Safety procedures, policies and documentation is compliant, we use the services of the global H&S firm ‘Alcumus SM&MS’. Alcumus provides access to a range of health and safety consultants who are corporate members of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

We expect all employees to co-operate with us so that we can achieve our target of avoiding accidents. Consultation on safety and health matters, between senior managers and all employees, will be carried out. You must play your part under the safety statement, comply with all the safety and health rules for your area, work safely and think of others as you do, report safety and health problems to your supervisor and know who your safety representative is and contact him or her with any safety and health enquiries you may have.

A Risk assessment is nothing more than a careful examination of what, in your workplace, could cause harm to people. It is a detailed list of Hazards and the precautions to be taken to make them Safer.

So that at the end of your Assessment, you can weigh up whether you taken enough precautions or you should do more to prevent harm. The aim is to make sure that no one gets hurt or becomes ill. Accidents and ill health can ruin lives.

When must a Risk Assessment be carried out?

A Risk assessment must be completed prior to working on a new site and on the first working day of each week on a continuos site, i.e Monday morning's prior to starting work, because on an on-going contract, the Risks will be always changing. This does not mean, that if you see a Risk you ignore it until the following Monday. If you see a Risk, document it, inform your fellow Employees and Management, So we can make it SAFE.
